The Distributive Property
The distributive property states that the product of the sum or difference of numbers is the same as the sum or difference of their products. Another way to understand the distributive property is with real life illustrations. For example, if you have to get food for your family but only know how much you need to get for one person, as it shows in the the example above, you multiply the sum by the number of people you provide for. You can then rearrange the equation to simplify it. The distributive property allows you to rearrange the equation to get to an answer in a simpler way.
